What You Pick Up Without Being Told
Someone says they’re fine, but the conversation feels different. You walk into a room and sense tension before learning what happened. A familiar person insists nothing is wrong, yet some small change in rhythm, expression, or tone makes that explanation difficult to accept. We register far more than what is explicitly said.
The complication is that perception and interpretation arrive remarkably close together. A shift may be real while the explanation we give it is entirely our own. We can accurately notice that something changed and still be wrong about what changed, why it changed, or whether it has anything to do with us. Sensitivity provides information, but it does not necessarily provide its meaning.
