Some things survive because they are rarely examined closely. An assumption passes easily through conversation until someone asks what it actually means. A complicated process seems necessary until each step is made visible. A behavior appears reasonable while its consequences remain scattered across different moments. Visibility changes the conditions under which things can continue unnoticed.

A surprising amount of suffering takes place in advance. A meeting scheduled for Thursday occupies Tuesday night. An unanswered message becomes the beginning of an imagined conflict. One uncertain outcome produces five possible futures, each rehearsed as though it has already occurred.

Every environment contains an arrangement of authority. Someone sets the schedule. Someone decides what counts. Someone determines where the boundaries are drawn, which behavior belongs inside them, and what happens when they are crossed. Most of these structures become invisible once we learn how to move within them.

There is an unusual moment after something comes together. The result arrives. The effort proves worthwhile. What was being built finally holds its own weight. Almost immediately, attention begins searching for the next thing to improve, expand, pursue, or secure.
